Job Description:
The Department of Health Sciences is hiring an Academic Advisor I. This position will advise undergraduate students within the Department of Health Sciences of course selection and sequencing to facilitate timely graduation. The position will have knowledge and understanding of the requirements needed to pursue various opportunities related to the major.
The duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Provide academic advising and guidance to current and prospective students by appointment, walk-in, email, online video/chat, and telephone in support of student retention and graduation initiatives. Advising activities include, but are not limited to, enrollment, retention, progression, resolution of obstacles impeding academic success, graduation, and career planning.
Interpret degree audits and assist students with the development of an academic plan to meet graduation requirements.
Assist with student orientations (transfer and freshman), open houses, majors’ fairs, and advising workshops as they relate to the program/college.
Adhere to and explain academic policies and procedures.
Provide referrals/intervention services as indicated.
Share responsibility for handling general e-mail account, including responding to current and prospective student inquiries per department, college, university, and federal guidelines.
Maintain appropriate student records of advising sessions/student interactions using my Knight Star and other systems as appropriate. Use advising tools, campaigns, and technology to manage student data and records.
Process requests, as appropriate, for special advising needs (e.g., exceptions, overrides, etc.).
Update students via email and/or other approved strategies about upcoming events and important dates.
Attend meetings and serve on committees as recommended by Chair or Program Director.
Assist with the development and maintenance of department bulletin boards, handouts, and media.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 0+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous academic advising in college/university settings.
Comfortable working in a team setting.
Familiarity with Peoplesoft Campus Solutions
