Introduction

BBC News Ukraine is one of the BBC World Service Language Services, reaching wide audiences both in Ukraine and globally. Its impactful multimedia content is shared via a number of digital platforms, including bbc.ua website and social media. The team is currently based in three locations in Ukraine, Poland and the UK.

We are seeking an experienced multimedia journalist to join our team based in Kyiv.

Main responsibilities

  • Use a range of digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
  • Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
  • To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
  • Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
  • To tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
  • To prioritize and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.
  • Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
  • At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have fluent proficiency in Ukrainian, ability to write and edit text articles and video scripts, essential. You will also have:

  • High proficiency in written and fluency in spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively, essential.
  • Significant recent experience as a journalist in Ukraine and the wider region, with a good knowledge of multimedia production techniques and writing skills.
  • Strong editorial judgement
  • A deep knowledge of the experts’ community within Ukraine and the wider region.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of BBC journalism.
  • Demonstrable experience in covering Ukrainian and wider regional news stories and issues.
  • Ability to cover developments in Ukraine in text and video, both for the Ukrainian and global audiences.
  • Ability to make sound editorial decisions, based on knowledge and understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda, the requirements of news and current affairs coverage and the audience in.
