Introduction
BBC News Ukraine is one of the BBC World Service Language Services, reaching wide audiences both in Ukraine and globally. Its impactful multimedia content is shared via a number of digital platforms, including bbc.ua website and social media. The team is currently based in three locations in Ukraine, Poland and the UK.
We are looking for a Senior Journalist/Political Correspondent to produce original stories, which include scripting, editing and presenting across a range of BBC outputs.
Main responsibilities
- Produce and edit quickly under pressure (video, audio, texts, etc.) and to sub-edit or rework other people’s content.
- Work on camera on lives, interviews.
- Flag up editorial issues and discuss them with Editor and Senior Journalists.
- Liaise closely with colleagues across BBC departments.
- Maintain professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing and adhering to the BBC’s Editorial guidelines.
- Offer ideas for daily output and future diary events, suggest new angles on existing stories and to put forward stories not yet covered.
- Understand the BBC Ukrainian strategy and to suggest ideas appropriate to its distinctive style and content.
- Ensure that BBC Editorial guidelines and all relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.
- Proactively identify possible improvements and innovation in working practices and coverage priorities.
- Act up as requested by the Editor.
- You may be required to work with or move to other teams on a multi- media basis and to have the ability to work across a range of skills and in a flexible manner, and to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the BBC’s overall standards and values.
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role you will be an experienced correspondent and be able to demonstrate fluency in written and spoken Ukrainian/English and the ability to communicate in Ukrainian/English effectively, including the ability to edit and oversee videos and adapt with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media.
You’ll have strong editorial judgement, based on extensive journalistic experience in Ukraine and wider region with the focus on Ukrainian internal politics and foreign relations. You’ll have a deep knowledge of the experts’ community within Ukraine and the wider region.
