Reuters is seeking a first-class journalist and experienced newsroom leader to oversee our text and visual news coverage in Ukraine. This role will manage the text, video, and photography teams in Ukraine to ensure we produce superb breaking news coverage, hard-hitting exclusives and impactful long-form stories.
The successful candidate will help us tell the story of the war with Russia from the frontline, the missile-struck cities and the voices of people living through the conflict. They will make sure Reuters is first with major developments in Ukrainian politics and diplomacy, that we break the biggest stories about the country’s economy and seek out personal stories.
This is a role for someone with extensive experience of working in hostile environments and managing people under such conditions. They will be expected to work in sync with the Reuters safety team to ensure we deliver first class journalism in the safest way possible.
About the Role
As our Ukraine Bureau Chief, you will:
- Breaking News Lead coverage of breaking news, demonstrating agility and decisiveness and a thorough understanding of Reuters news wire, live and edited video, and photography products
- Deeper Reporting: Champion in-depth investigative and long-form pieces. Proven experience of delivering exclusive reporting and developing teams to do the same
- Storytelling Excellence: Drive compelling multimedia storytelling across mediums; know what makes excellent video, photographic and written content and how they interplay on digital platforms
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team in a high-pressure environment. Foster collaboration. Advocate for your team’s success and professional development.
- Client & Audience Understanding: Understand Reuters’ client needs and digital audience engagement strategies.
About You
To be our Ukraine Bureau Chief, you will likely have:
- Exceptional journalistic skills. Previous experience leading both text and visuals teams is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor large teams.
- Demonstrated success leading fast-paced breaking news coverage and exclusive reporting.
- Experience operating in hostile environments and managing people in such conditions.
- Ukrainian and/or Russian language skills preferred
- Familiarity with current visual storytelling technologies and digital platforms.
