Description

Project title: EU4Independent Media

 

Brief description:

The overall objective of the project of which this contract will be a part is to contribute to democratisation and empower citizens in the Eastern Neighbourhood.

Purpose: Independent, professional journalists need financially viable outlets and media outlets across this region face tremendous challenges. Some of these are due to global sectorial trends whereas others are region- and/or country-specific. This intervention aims to take a comprehensive approach to provide tailor-made support to improve the immediate and long-term financial viability of independent media outlets. This will include trainings, mentoring and tutoring to improve quality and develop new media products. Capacity building will also aim to enhance management, marketing skills as well as support to develop new revenue streams, increased understanding of audiences and make necessary technological investments. Furthermore, this intervention also supports content production, investigative journalism and reinforces peer-to-peer networking of media professionals.

 

Commencement date of the project: November 2021

 

Duration of the assignment: 660 days / full-time

 

Requirements:

 

Qualifications & skills

 

  • University degree in journalism or a relevant, directly related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience of at least 4 years. These 4 years are counted in addition to those required under ‘General professional experience’.
  • Working knowledge of English (B2).
  • Excellent oral communication and drafting skills (speaking and understanding) in Russian (C1).
  • Additional knowledge of at least 1 local language of the Eastern Neighbourhood would be considered an asset (Georgian, Romanian, Moldovan, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Ukrainian, Belarussian).

 

General professional experience

 

  • At least 7 years experience in journalism, at least two of which should have been gained in the Eastern Neighbourhood region.
  • At least 5 years of experience in production and post-production at senior level gained in a broadcast media, agency or production company or equivalent. These can be part of the 7 years in journalism.
  • Experience as or in support of investigative journalism would be considered an asset.

 

Specific professional experience

  • Preferably 4 years of post-graduate experience in journalist trainings or equivalent technical capacity building projects in support of independent journalism, but a minimum of 2 years is required.
