The Associate Dean of the Library oversees all library operations and services, including preparing and managing budgets, operational planning and assessment, developing and implementing library policies and procedures, coordinating collection development and supervision of the librarian and staff.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Create, revise and maintain progress toward a vision of an academic library in the twenty-first century, integrated with the mission of Renton Technical College, including balancing existing library services and resources with emerging technologies.
Develop and direct all instructional services for students and faculty in information. Represents the Library/Media Center in matters pertaining to library/media programs and participates with faculty and administration in the planning and development of college curriculum and library/media services to meet the needs of the curriculum.
Direct the development of library collections (print, media and electronic sources) in support of the mission of the college.
Hire, supervise and evaluate the performance of library support and professional staff. Plans for the ongoing training and professional development of staff and self to remain current in skills and further develop cultural competence.
Manage, plan and implement information technologies in the library. Directs the daily use, customization and implementation of the ExLibris Alma/Primo integrated on-line library information system.
Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse and minoritized student populations.
Develop and recommend annual operational budget for the department. Monitors department expenditures to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and appropriate use of funds.
Participate in local, regional and state professional organizations and represents the college’s interest in consortia and/or venues as appropriate.
Participate in other College activities through committees, councils and administrative meetings as assigned.
Ability to work well within a team.
Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated leadership in working with and supporting persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
Master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Recent Experience in a higher education institution.
Five years of progressively responsible experience as a professional librarian, including supervisory experience.
Established practice of ongoing personal and professional growth towards equity and promoting that development in their team(s).
Experience in preparing and delivering presentations and library instruction in culturally appropriate methods and modalities.
Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of library management.
Working knowledge of current information technologies and automated library systems; ability to troubleshoot and problem solve standard library systems.
Skilled in developing library collection, including the assessment of resources and technologies.
Experience in developing library and educational facilities.
Experience in developing information literacy curriculum.
Demonstrated experience in academic budgetary procedures and processes.
Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically experience in creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
Demonstrate attention to detail is required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, colleagues and community partners.
Knowledge of, understanding of, and commitment to the education role and philosophy of the technical college.
Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
