Job Description:
The Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is recruiting for a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month position as an instructional designer (ID) with a specialization in adaptive learning. This position may participate in an open promotion plan seeking higher rank at the university.
The ID’s major responsibility is developing and maintaining relationships with online and mixed mode faculty and facilitating the development of their adaptive learning courses.
The ID needs strong skills in curriculum development and have the ability to identify components of instruction, link competencies, and create dependencies for the adaptive environment. This may include supporting curriculum development and construction of course materials using specified software on behalf of faculty. In addition, an ID is responsible for all aspects of instructional and curriculum design (e.g., analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) relative to delivery of effective and efficient professional development courses to help faculty convert to the online environment and to promote the quality of online instruction at UCF. An ID participates in research-based professional development opportunities and service.
Characteristic duties and responsibilities:
- Serves as a course designer on behalf of faculty using specified software, including, but not limited to, adaptive learning platforms. Designs and develops instructional content and materials as necessary.
- Provides assistance to online faculty to identify components of instruction, link competencies and create dependencies for the adaptive environment.
- Assists in providing pedagogical consultation services to online faculty including, but not limited to, coaching, mentoring, and encouraging online teaching and learning best practices.
- Assists in monitoring and adjusting instruction based on feedback from faculty to parallel didactic competencies and facilitating completion of learning objectives.
- Performs basic project management tasks for adaptive, mixed mode and online faculty courses and areas of responsibility.
- Facilitates relationship management acting as liaison between faculty/departments and other CDL teams specific to pedagogy, professional development curriculum and courses, and change management.
- Develops and supports online faculty professional development curriculum.
- Assists in developing and implementing instructional design strategies for colleges, regional campuses, and the CDL.
- Assists with research to evaluate and improve distributed learning at UCF.
- Participates in team strategic planning to ensure alignment and attainment of ID team goals and objectives, as well as enhance communication between and among CDL teams.
- Participates in developing and revising CDL and ID team policies and procedures.
- Participates in unit meetings and other university activities.
- Acts as cross-functional team member on projects with other CDL teams.
- Facilitates and supports continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Instructional Designer: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Associate Instructional Designer: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and at least four years of related professional experience; or terminal degree or equivalency of terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Senior Instructional Designer: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and at least nine years of related professional experience, with a demonstrated record of sustained achievement in instructional design; or a terminal degree or equivalency of a terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization, with a demonstrated record of sustained achievement in instructional design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Instructional design degree from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams.
- Demonstrated ability in curriculum development.
- Proficient in delivering successful results while managing high profile higher education projects and initiatives.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in higher education to facilitate faculty developing and delivering online and mixed mode learning courses.
- Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms (e.g., Realizeit).
