This position will perform professional nutrition consultant duties, monitoring and assessing nutrition services to licensed family child care providers who contract with the City of Seattle Child Care Nutrition Program (CCNP). This job requires the ability to monitor and train family child care providers so they remain in compliance with program guidelines as outlined by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s (OSPI), and the Division of Early Learning’s (DEL) minimum licensing requirements.
This position will report to the Food and Nutrition Unit Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
Position requires knowledge of and ability to interpret various USDA child nutrition mandates and child care licensing requirements
Review and amend handouts and handbooks to include new USDA regulations
Create training handouts and presentations that are inclusive of persons who are English Language Learners or who benefit from simple training materials with ample visuals
Be able to offer effective and realistic suggestions to ensure providers from diverse backgrounds consistently meets USDA requirements.
Provide menu planning information and guidance
Plan and conduct remote meal reviews and training for approximately 25 family child care providers.
Monitor the quality of meal service and record keeping compliance with USDA guidelines
Occasional evening and weekend work required conducting on-site meal reviews and provider training
Train and orient new providers on the rules and regulations of the CACFP
Provides technical assistance and corrective action information directly to providers
Review menu and attendance records submitted by family child care providers for payment
Identify specific problem areas of individual child care providers through monitoring and menu reviews, and accurately document findings
Network with partner agencies and child care communities to promote recruitment and retention
Assist with developing and implementing trimester training topics for child care providers
Prepare monthly reports and correspondence
Assist in the preparation of a program newsletter
Manage a busy calendar with multiple priorities
Able to conduct some work remotely until we fully return to office

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: B.A. or B.S. in Nutrition, Social Sciences, Human Services, Business Administration, or a related field is required (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Experience: Requires one year of experience in the child nutrition field, child care field, early learning service delivery, and/or contract administration.
Certification/License: Washington State Driver’s License
Desired Qualifications:
Experience monitoring the Child and Adult Food Program or other USDA funded programs
Experience working with children in a family home child care setting or other child care setting
Ability to work effectively with persons from culturally, socio-economically and ethnically diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of nutrition, menu planning, and food safety
Experience training individuals one-on-one and in group settings
Experience in program outreach and recruiting
Ability to identify program needs and plan and implement solutions
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Working experience in Minute Menu database and Windows software applications.
Second language fluency such as Somali, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, or Spanish and a commitment to providing culturally competent services
Creative problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Highly organized, motivated and a self-starter
Ability to work remotely with minimum supervision
Detail oriented
Ability to adapt to changing situations
Able to meet strict deadlines
