ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Recruitment & Hiring is responsible for the overall talent acquisition strategy at Internews, including attracting, sourcing, recruiting, and hiring diverse and talented candidates. This position is located in Washington, DC and works regularly with staff in both the UK and on the West Coast of the United States.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:
Talent Acquisition Strategy Development & Implementation:
- Creates and implements effective and sustainable global talent acquisition, recruitment, and retention strategies for the organization that align with and support Internews’ values of Belonging, Dignity, and Justice;
- Develops and executes strategies to increase diversity of hires and for candidates in application pools;
- Develops hiring and recruitment metrics and goals and regularly reports against those targets;
- Performs analysis of hiring needs and creates employee hiring forecasts;
- Develops and manages processes and systems for internal applicants;
- Works together with staff who oversee benefits and compensation to ensure that attractive total rewards packages are established in accord with market trends;
- Plans procedures for improving the candidate experience;
- Manages Internews’ Affirmative Action Program;
- Develops and implements policy, guidance, and trainings around candidate selection and hiring protocols and processes including:
- Best practices for hiring managers and hiring panels in a decentralized hiring and candidate selection model;
- Development and implementation of candidate assessment tools;
- Conducting regular trainings with hiring managers and staff around proper recruitment and hiring practices.
- Leverages existing relationships to enhance recruitment strategies and build new ones, and actively works to develop new resources;
- Partners with regional and country-based teams to develop and oversees relationships with international Professional Employment Organizations (PEOs);
- Performs sourcing to fill open positions when necessary; and
- Creates and executes plan for Internews representation at career and job fairs at schools or universities.
Corporate Hiring Services:
- Manages all corporate hiring processes and policies;
- Supervises hiring and recruiting personnel, providing guidance, and mentoring staff development;
- Advises on appropriate employment or agreement vehicle for engaging identified candidates;
- Presents and negotiates all offers of employment for corporate positions, including offer package curation and negotiation with new employees;
- Works together with rewards and benefits staff to ensure organizational parity within position levels and compensation structure;
- Provides guidance and review of Job Descriptions to ensure consistency within organizational position level and compliance with best practices;
- Ensures complete reference check, vetting and background screening processes are followed for all HQ hires;
- Optimizes use of systems and tools such as an Applicant Tracking System and/or the talent acquisition module of an HRIS;
- Manages organizational contract and employment agreement language and ensures compliance with legal and funder requirements;
- Supports Key Personnel submissions to funder and ensures all Key Personnel staff have approval on file;
- Participates in project start-up meetings, tracking HR items and providing guidance to project teams as needed;
- Supports staff transitions from corporate to local employment agreements when necessary; and
- Manages the relationship and communication with payroll team regarding new employee onboarding.
- Supports management, leadership and culture initiatives of the HR, People & Culture team;
- Maintains and demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values; and
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
- A degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or a relevant field or equivalent professional and lived experience
- Proven experience in developing, implementing and managing effective organizational recruitment and retention strategies
- Prior experience as a Talent Acquisition Manager, or similar experience in a Human Resources or recruiting role
- A solid understanding of current employment law and the ability to learn and follow new developments
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience in managing and overseeing a talent acquisition team and evidence of transforming the recruitment function within an organization
- Experience with applicant tracking systems and HRIS systems
- Strategic thinker
- Is able to build relationships with employees at all levels
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Proven ability handling confidential and/or sensitive information
- Ability to travel internationally, sometimes to challenging environments

- Experience working an international organization, non-profit or development sector
- Diversity Recruiter training
- Fluency in French, Spanish, or Russian (written and oral)
- Current Human Resources Certification (SHRM-CP, HRCI-PHR)
