Essential Job Functions
The Position:
Positions allocable to this entry level class receive supervision from higher level election assistants and perform a variety of routine work such as receiving, inspecting, recording and storing voted ballot cards, providing voter information and registration materials, and explaining polling place operations and election processes to the public.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Participates in a variety of election related duties, such as, receives, opens, and processes vote-by-mail envelops; prepares ballots for tally; reviews voter registrations for accuracy and completeness; performs data entry; conducts signature verification activities; inspects election material for damages and takes appropriate action; assists in monitoring and responding to election inquiries via email and over the telephone.
Participates in voter outreach activities by distributing Voter Registration forms and voter information materials that address different topics on voter registration, the election process, new election legislation, as well as what types of programs the Department offers.
Explains vote center operations and election processes in response to questions from the public and public officials.
Performs a variety of clerical duties related to elections processes such as mailing election materials, checking, listing, and packing sample ballots.
Assists with proofreading, reviewing, and editing election material for proper use of grammar and content; translates, proofreads, and interprets election material from the English language to another language, as needed.
Assist with the preparation and de-processing of election materials and supplies, which may require loading and unloading.
Requirements
Minimum Requirement: No training or experience is required.
License: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Expectations: This job will require light (Class II), moderate (Class III), or arduous (Class IV) physical effort.
COVID-19 Vaccination: All County workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Successful candidates for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process. Candidates should not present proof of vaccination until instructed to do so by the hiring department.
Special Requirement Information:
Successful applicants for positions that require driving must meet departmental driving criteria and get clearance before final appointment. The department will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.
Class II requires light physical effort, which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit; some bending, stooping or squatting; and considerable walking may be involved.
Class III requires that incumbents stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional listing of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
Class IV involves frequent heavy listing over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. it includes those positions which occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety Positions.

Our Assessment Process: This is a noncompetitive assessment process and taking an exam is not required. The assessment is intended to merely qualify applicants.
Selective Certification:
Selective certification lists may be prepared for the following language specialties:
Armenian, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, Farsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Mongolian, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Telugu, Thai or Vietnamese.
Candidates who wish to have their name placed on a language selective certification list must indicate their foreign language on the application and supplemental questionnaire and pass a qualifying language proficiency test on their ability to speak, read, and write English and the specialty language.
The Department may also prepare selective certification lists by service areas.
Veteran Credit: If you served in the military and were honorably discharged, you may qualify for Veteran’s Credit. We will need a copy of your DD214 or any official document issued by your branch of service to determine veteran credit eligibility. The list of eligible candidates will be used for TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT only.
Eligibility Information:
Applicants will be processed on an as-received basis and promulgated to the list of eligible candidates accordingly.
Qualified applicants will be placed on the list of eligible candidates for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of promulgation.
Qualified applicants will be placed on a list of eligible candidates without indication of relative standing in the assessment process. The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate list, except a person without Veteran’s credit may not be appointed if there are three or more names on the list of persons entitled to Veteran’s credit.
No person may participate in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months; doing so, will result in the rejection of your application.
