Organizational Setting
The Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU) is responsible for leading FAO’s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO’s priority activities in the region. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the Region and, in collaboration with departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO’s strategic response to regional priorities. REU also advises on the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization’s Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the region, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The Regional Office supports regional policy dialogue on food security, agriculture and rural development issues, facilitates the emergence of regional partnerships, and supports capacity development and resource mobilization for food security, agriculture and rural development in the region.
The Graphic designer will carry out activities that support the Organization’s corporate and regional communication strategy and activities.
Reporting Lines
The Graphic Designer reports to the REU Communications Officer, under the day-to-day guidance of the REU Communication Specialist.
Technical Focus
The Graphic Designer creates and/or elaborates the product’s primary image and graphic template (e.g. page layout) for the content.
Tasks and responsibilities
Create the visual identity for the FAO Regional Conference for Europe, and generate declensions of that identity in the form of exhibit panels, web banners, printed matter, etc.
Design a wide range of communication products (visual identities, web banners, printed matter, exhibit panels, etc.) referring to creative briefs or other guidance from the supervisors
Produce multiple iterations of given designs, adapting as needed to different dimensions, languages, and file formats
Perform digital and print-ready layout of REU’s flagship publication, The State of Food Security and Nutrition in Europe and Central Asia 2020, in English and Russian
Interact as needed to resolve technical issues with printing companies producing FAO communication products
Visual identity for the regional conference on FLW reduction in Budapest
Visuals for the European Commission for Agriculture (preparing banner, backdrop, PPT, etc. by reusing the already existing visuals)
Design World Food Day related materials
The year-end-greeting card
Visual for the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture stand
High- and low-resolution files (for print and web) as well as complete design packages (source files) delivered to supervisor
Ensure compliance with design corporate standards including FAO logo policies; Publishing at FAO: strategy and guidance
Produce templates for MS Power Point presentations based on the content provided
Visually represent statistical data, including creation of graphics and other visual images from analytical data, excel data bases and questionnaires results
Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
University degree (or higher) in art, graphic design, or related field, or relevant technical training/qualification;
Good knowledge (level C or higher) of English;
Two years of experience in graphic design or related field;

Technical/Functional Skills
Practical experience in graphic design, including the use of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.)
Familiarity with multi-media software for preparing videos and sound recording desirable.
Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and colour management;
Knowledge of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms, as well as modern design trends such as infographics, quota gram, tableau, etc.;
Knowledge and experience with websites and content management systems is an advantage;
Good understanding of mass media and communication networks in the field of agriculture, fisheries, livestock, forestry, climate change, and environment, food safety etc.;
Experience working with UN agencies and international organizations is an advantage.
Selection Criteria
Knowledge of Russian will be considered as an asset
