We’re looking for someone to join our team as an Interpreter who:
Interprets and facilitates communication between patients with limited English proficiency and their physicians, nurses, lab technicians and other healthcare providers. Provides support for cultural differences for patient to ensure understanding of plan of care during visit and post discharge.
Essential Functions:
Translates documented or interprets orally communicated medical terminology and basic health care information between patients with limited English proficiency, providers and associates in target language. Interprets patient’s response back to the professional, using proper medical terminology. Interprets such information as the reason for a medical visit, past medical history and family medical history, as well as explaining medical and surgical procedures, giving medical instructions, providing drug information, explaining discharge instructions and scheduling follow-up appointments to ensure optimal experience and outcome. Works with both provider and patient/ family with questions about follow up to make sure patient will be compliant.
Provides emotional support and comfort to the patient as they are personally escorted through the process of care.
Effectively, accurately and impartially communicates directly with individuals with limited English proficiency in their primary language. Communication includes any necessary specialized vocabulary, terminology and phraseology related to care provided.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Adheres to all standards, policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
You’ll be successful with the following qualifications:
Education:
High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Education in target language, translation, interpretation or related fields: Preferred
Work Experience:
Previous healthcare experience: Preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Medical interpreter certificate: Preferred
in CA and HIState Qualified interpreter per Oregon Health Authority: Preferred
in OR (Qualified status required within one year of hire)Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Preferred
