Operate Amos D computer Data Program for requisitioning, receiving, and managing purchase orders as policy requires
Operate Vessel Data Center (VDC) input and management of crew lists, daily statistics, transfer manager, offload instructions/tracking, phone transactions, petty cash transactions, employee information, injury/illness reporting, catch manager
Generate production report to groups as required
Generate reports for NMFS: EEZ crossing, cease/begin reports, daily logbook, weekly report, product transfer report, submission of yellow quarterly sheets, observer data, catch data to ASC accounting, records of home packs, donations, and fish consumed onboard, catch log
Monitor and manage computer and other electronic equipment use: NT server, observer computer, purser computer, fax machine, black box, JRC, cell phones, and crewmember communications computer
Prepare the offload pack: manifests, mate’s receipts, HR paperwork, injury/illness reports, petty cash log, and fishmeal samples
Handle crew needs: changes to W-4, address etc., cab vouchers, travel arrangements, work gear check-out, office supplies, cash draws, MSDS, EEO employment-related diversity and/or incident investigation statements, contracts, newspaper, in-town purchases, bon voyage weather system
Ensure trip-to-trip extension sign-up list done in a timely manner before each new trip begins

Performs requirements of emergency station bill for drills and actual emergencies to include fire, flooding, man-overboard, abandon ship, medical and spill response and life raft organization for crew
Implement and manage safety incentive program
Conduct daily safety inspection rounds and provide safety inspection assistance
Provide safety training assistance to the crew
Inspect and maintain all water-tight hatch dogs for free movement and reliability in case of emergency need
Inspect and maintain vents to open or close in case of emergency need
Assist in accident investigations including reviewing accident reports as written by those involved
Ensure accurate completion of vessel safety officer report including injury/illness reports, witness statements, OSHA 200 log, USCG 2692 form, medical log, clinic authorizations, alcohol and drug testing.
Provide crew medical treatment/attention as needed and document with evaluation/treatment report
Work with Maritime Health Services over the phone during emergencies, medical emergencies and supplies management, crew clinic appointments, arrangements for crewmember emergency departures
Report all emergency situations as required
Order and inventory all medical supplies
Ensure correct navigational charts and publications—laying out courses on charts and electronic charts
Provide Weather reports and Amver messages
Maintain condition of bridge equipment—navigational lights and spares, searchlight, flags and halyards and books
Ensure that proper flags are hoisted
Conduct inspections of firefighting equipment (fire extinguishers and fixed fire systems)
Conduct inspections of SCBA’s (self-contained breathing apparatus)
Test EPIRB’s monthly
Inspect and inventory survival suits
Inspect the condition of all lifeboats and life rafts
Inspect and inventory pyrotechnics (flares-smokes)
Inspect life rings and smokebouys and lights attached to life rings
Log book entries into official bridge log every 4 hours (weather, course, speed, activity, etc.)
Log book entries of safety inspections
Additional Duties as Applicable
ADEC / EPA annual summary of production and discard report
NMFS E-landing reports, state & federal
ADF&G fish tickets
USCG advance notice of arrival, 96 hour & 24 hour
OSHA related audit assistance when needed
Docking reports
Trim fuel tanks
Assist navigation and watch
Assist with stability calculation information gathering during trip
Maintain garbage log-MARPOL calculations.
In Port
Assist as needed with docking and undocking of vessel
Monitor/inspect as needed condition of mooring lines while in port
Serve as needed on security patrol to identify strangers, vendors, crew on and off the vessel
Assist in periodic checks of affected areas during fueling
Serve as needed standing gangway watch
FCC Requirements (assigned as needed)
While operating in Washington state waters, maintain logbooks, manning requirements, inspections per Washington state laws.
Maintain up-to-date certificate file (expiration dates) for Fleet Vessel Manager
Yearly EPA report for operations
Fishing in Alaska/outside of Alaska annual report for operations
Skill and Experience Required
Minimum 3 years’ experience as Purser of fishing vessels participating in fisheries in Alaskan or Russian waters.
Must possess excellent communication abilities, organizational abilities, and intense detail management abilities, including interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation.
Above average computer skills to include competence in Windows based programs, AmosD data base, some network understanding.
Advanced first aid training
Ability to assist and counsel vessel employees when appropriate.
Physical Ability
Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug tests.
Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gangplank or using a Jacob’s ladder.
Must climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs, or vertical ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions as extreme as 30 degrees below zero.
Work Schedule
12 hours or more per day for the duration of the trip, including loading and unloading
