Job Description
The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is seeking three Community Coordinators to join the Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability within the Field Operations team. Reporting to Senior Management with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative, judgment, and decision making, the successful candidate will perform professional, complex, and responsible field operations work and administrative coordination on Department sustainable waste management programs and initiatives including, but not limited to:
- Conducting field work and operations, citywide, related to bin and supply deliveries and various field operations as needed.
- Managing inventory of bins and other operational equipment and supplies.
- Coordinating operational vendors, ensuring they are successfully completing required tasks, resolving or alerting management to any issues.
- Reviewing purchase orders and invoices, making corrections and amendments as needed.
- Overseeing operational inventories, workflow processes, and communications pertaining to fieldwork and operations.
- Researching, evaluating, and making recommendations on the implementation and execution of operations.
- Preparing reports and presentations on the status of operations and field work
- Working internally within DSNY, as well as with other agencies, on successful field operations.
- Developing contacts within City government and with other recycling and waste management professionals.
- Support for other Bureau functions as needed. May require occasional evening or weekend work, as relevant.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred Skills
- Extensive knowledge of New York City and navigating New York City by vehicle.
- Experience with operations and field work.
- Experience with vendor oversight, procurement and invoicing.
- Experience with inventory control and management.
- Strong communications skills; ability to work on complex field operations.
- Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, writing, and data management skills.
- Proficiency in use of word processing and data management applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as basic customer relationship management platforms.
- In addition to English, fluency in a foreign language including, but not limited to: Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and Hebrew.
- Possession of a New York State Motor Vehicle Driver’s License
