Organizational Setting
The post is located in the FAO Liaison Office with the United Nations in New York (FAOLON) that was established on 16 March 1956.
Reporting Lines
The Sustainable Development Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the Director, FAO Liaison Office to the United Nations in New York (FAOLON), and direct supervision of the Senior Liaison Officers.
Technical Focus
Facilitate processes and efforts aiming at the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by liaising with key partners and UN agencies and member countries in New York.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Support preparation of SG reports for UNGA 2nd Committee.
Support FAO participation and engagement in the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and its main committees, including support to drafting of SG Reports and negotiations of resolutions, preparing relevant information and follow up as requested.
Support FAO participation and engagement in ECOSOC, its main Segments and functional Commissions and the High-Level Political Forum, preparing relevant information and follow up as requested.
Prepare/organize events organized or co-organized by FAO in New York, including logistics arrangements, drafting concept notes, programmes and other background information.
Support FAO engagement with Permanent Missions, UN entities and other stakeholders as necessary.
Prepare briefs, talking points, key messages and statements for meetings and events attended by FAO, and prepare summary reports for information and follow up as requested.
Prepare and promote international observances related to FAO’s mandate
Participate in UN interagency mechanisms and others UN working groups.
Prepare documents for LON’s web site.
Perform other duties as requested.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
University degree in agriculture, economics, international relations, international development or a related field;
One year of relevant experience in development and emergency/rehabilitation contexts; including work experience in FAO and/or the UN System and in more than one location or area of work.
Working knowledge of English and at least limited knowledge of another official language of the Organization for COF.REG (Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian).
For PSA.SBS, working knowledge of English will be sufficient.
