The person selected for this temporary role will work part-time for up to six months supporting Metro’s Waste Prevention and Environmental Services (WPES) department and the WPES Communications team as it engages with community members about the creation of two potential garbage and recycling facilities in the Metro region. This temporary position will provide program and administrative support to multiple community outreach events, internal staff activities, and communication efforts related to these two new potential facilities.
The initial expectation of hours for this position is 10 to 20 hours weekly; actual hours may increase to 32 to 40 hours per week, depending on business needs and the selected individual’s availability. (Duration of this work may also extend beyond the expected initial six months, depending on actual hours worked per week.) Work schedule is flexible, with most work likely to be performed between Monday and Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On occasion, if available and with ample notice, the person in this position may be asked to work outside of these typical hours to support community events. Most of the work of this position can be done remotely (from home) but may require occasional in-person work in Clackamas, Multnomah, or Washington counties where allowed.

What you will do:
Schedule community-oriented events and internal meetings
Schedule appointments for other employees
Develop meeting agendas and format and distribute agendas to participants.
Monitor and organize team email correspondence and contact lists
Respond to general event inquiries and/or more complex information requests
Take and prepare meeting notes/minutes
Track team’s action items and provide light-to medium-duty MS Planner technical support for team
Proofread, format, and coordinate production and distribution of reports and documents
Layout and publish/distribute informational flyers and documents
Support contract development, processing and payments for partners/service providers
Support community and advisory group meetings, including scheduling, logistics, meeting set-up, and in-meeting technical support for virtual and in-person meetings (where/when allowed)
Organize and maintain shared project folders and records
Other duties as assigned

Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to take action from written and verbal direction
Flexible, adaptable, and able to work on multiple activities within a short timeframe while tracking all tasks and meeting established deadlines.
Ability to identify, develop and utilize community resources
Experience and education:
Three years of administrative and/or clerical work experience AND
A high school diploma or G.E.D.; OR
Any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the job.
Preferred skills
Prior experience using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner, Zoom, and Content Manager
Knowledge of interpersonal and public relations principles and techniques
Prior experience with supporting community input/engagement sessions for government programs
Professional or lived experience working with traditionally underrepresented communities
Bilingual in Spanish, Russian, and/or Vietnamese

The base rate of pay for this position is likely to be $25.79 or $27.08, depending on experience.
Work location: In response to COVID-19, work will generally be performed off-site (remote/telework) until it is deemed safe for Metro staff to return to the Metro Regional Center.
