CAS is currently seeking a Physical and Applied Chemist. This position will be based in our headquarters in Columbus, OH.
Position Summary:
The Physical and Applied Science Chemist applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, problem solving capabilities, and relevant language skills to help build CAS’s world-class collection of scientific data. They leverage their expertise to curate high-quality research data from patent authorities, journals, technical reports, books, conference proceedings and dissertations published in 180 countries and in more than 50 languages. The incumbent may also provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions.
Specific Responsibilities:
The Physical and Applied Science Chemist curates, collects, and analyzes the valuable data disclosed in scientific publications. They utilize CAS indexing policies and their expertise to extract key insights and build the CAS Content Collection. Leveraging their technical knowledge and applicable language skills they enable critical scientific breakthroughs.
Qualifications:
- An advanced degree in Physical Chemistry or related scientific field with 10+ years of related work experience.
- Working knowledge of German, Russian, or French languages is required.
- Excellent scientific reading comprehension and writing skills.
- Strong learning agility including ability to quickly learn and apply complex scientific concepts and policies and technology tools. Ability to apply learnings to new situations and glean relevant insights.
- Solutions focused, continuous improvement, and growth mindset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications. Aptitude and interest for learning and using various web-based and/or proprietary computer applications including, but not limited to video conferencing, instant messaging, and document sharing software.
