Adjunct Faculty

Kent State University is accepting applications for adjunct faculty positions in its online M.A. in Translation program. These are part- time, term faculty positions. Courses in the MA in Translation program include specialized translation courses (e.g., scientific, medical and technical translation; commercial, legal, and diplomatic translation; and literary translation) in the following language pairs: Arabic-English, French-English, German-English, Japanese-English, Russian-English, and Spanish-English as well as translation theory, research and writing for translation, computer-assisted translation tools, editing, localization, intercultural communication, and project management. Applications are welcome in any of these areas.

Courses will be delivered asynchronously through the University’s learning management system. Course content (lectures, readings, rubrics and submission links) has already been created. Instructor responsibilities entail providing students with feedback, answering their course-related questions, and grading their assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a master’s degree in Translation or a closely related field. For our translation practice courses, applicants must demonstrate native or near-native fluency in English as well as in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:
Professional experience in the language industry. Prior teaching experience, ideally online.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
