The Cashier II/ Business Office, full-time classified and overtime eligible position is part of the Business Office Team and reports directly to the Director of Accounting Services.
The Cashier II position is responsible for receiving funds in payment of tuition and other charges, recording monetary transactions, verifying daily records/receipts, preparing daily bank deposits, maintaining records of receipts/disbursements, and adhering to the college’s cash management process. This position also works closely with the Financial Aid Fiscal Specialist to facilitate the disbursement of financial aid funds to students. This position requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, strong communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse population.

Receive cash, checks, and/or credit cards in payment of tuition and other fees.
Maintain, balance and replenish change funds for Renton Technical College (RTC).
Assist with implementation of the Student Tuition Easy Payment Plan (STEPP).
Record all RTC tuition and other revenue in the computerized financial management system (FMS), and balance each batch.
Prepare and issue computerized receipts for all transactions. In the event of the FMS system going down, receipts will be generated manually and entered into the FMS system, when it is restored.
Process web registration credit card activity on a daily basis.
Distribute payroll, work study, and financial aid, travel and other employee reimbursement, checks.
Assist in developing new accounting forms as needed.
Maintain records of cash deposits and perform other filing as necessary.
Assist with daily deposits from various campus departments. Maintain and enforce security procedures, including service order tracking to ensure safety of funds.
Provide change to customers, and campus departments, as needed.
Ensure compliance with established cash management processes, and provide input to enhance security procedures for the cashiering department.
Coordinate with the Financial Aid Fiscal Specialist to facilitate financial aid disbursements to students. Investigate discrepancies, and aid in monthly reconciliation.
Assemble all information for disbursement, including student payment summary, check, and any other documents.
Assist in providing information, regarding the financial aid disbursements, to students at the cashiering window.
Facilitate the process for returned and uncashed financial aid checks. Coordinate reissue of lost or destroyed checks. Report outstanding checks annually to the Director of Accounting Services.
Assist as requested in preparing for new ERP system. Participate in training and implementation of software, including providing assistance to department/project management staff and coverage during system implementation.
Assist with work overload during peak registration periods.
Communicate professionally and effectively, using tact, discretion, and courtesy, with students, co-workers, college employees, and outside agencies at all times. Provide excellent customer service, and use problem solving skills, to resolve issues and relay campus information.
Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
High school graduate or equivalent and three years of general office experience including two years of cash handling experience. Advanced technical training in administrative procedures or accounting may substitute on a month for month basis for up to one year of the required experience.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.
Demonstrated ability to operate a 10-key calculator.
Ability to learn about the courses and programs offered by RTC, to facilitate proper collection of tuition and fees.
Proficient computer skills and knowledge of electronic data base systems, spreadsheets, Work, Outlook and Excel (SMS experience is preferred).
Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, specifically experience creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to establish, and maintain, effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the general public.
Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
High level of accuracy and organizational skills required.
Successful experience with diverse populations of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds and abilities, and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.
Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).
