Reporting directly to the Executive Director of College Technology Services, the Database Administrator provides senior level administration and support for the College’s database environment and is responsible for delivering a reliable, well maintained, and secure database environment to the College community. Responsibilities include Database Administration, Data integration, Data quality and management of in-house college-developed and 3rd Party database applications and end-user support for those applications. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
Identifies database requirements, analyzing department applications, evaluating existing systems, designing/coding utilities, and designing proposed upgrade/replacement systems. This includes the creation of and maintaining maps and/or diagrams that document the institutions database environment.
Responsible for solutions that define database physical structure, and functional capabilities. These solutions must include provisions for database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
Installs upgraded or new systems.
Responsible for uninterrupted uptime, high availability, data integrity, security, and safety of the College data environment. Ensure daily backup procedures for database servers and/or application servers are followed.
Monitor database performance of production and development efficiencies through sandbox database environment testing. Implement approved upgrades, complete prescribed maintenance both in scheduled and/or emergent sessions. This includes the possible upgrade/replacement of hardware/software infrastructure. Assist in design of continuance of operations procedures in preparation for database and application failures.
Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
Conduct user training, providing system documentation, resolving issues and assisting community members (peers, faculty, and staff) with extracting data from the databases for any defined community need.
Establish and enforce organizational data standards, data quality, data integrity and ctcLink coordination for the college in coordination with SBCTC and other state governing bodies. Liaison to the campus community for all data centric issues.
Maintain technical knowledge through educational workshops, publication review, establishing personal networks, adopting state of-the-art practices, participation in professional organizations.
Log interactions in Help desk database and maintain the integrity of the information.
Contribution to organization success through participation, including other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Successful experience with diverse population of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds and abilities and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.
A relevant two-year degree in information technology is preferred. As an alternative, candidates with previous experience in information technology may also qualify.
Industry experience must include two years as a Database Administrator or similar Role and Responsibilities.

SQL Certification preferred.
Experience working with People Soft in a Higher Education environment preferred.
The ability to work with and train end-users at varying skill levels preferred.
Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
