Summary of the Position
This is a non-supervisory position responsible for performing various high-impact functions for the online publication of USP documents, internal projects, and other related content in the Russian language. This position’s role combines different skills that include project management, translation, editing, linguistic QA and DTP skills. The Translation/Localization specialist will also work closely with translation vendors to ensure high quality and cost-effective translations.
This position is a three-year fixed term role.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Drives the strategy to develop Russian linguistic and technical resources: Style Guides, Termbases, LQA model(s), Translation Memories, etc.
- Participates in the coordination of translation projects across internal departments to ensure that translated USP documentation and web content reflect key messages accurately and are appropriate to Russian-speaking audiences.
- Translates official USP-NF content into Russian in compliance with approved USP linguistic resources.
- Revises and edits own translation work and that of other professional translators to ensure that it is accurate, complete, and stylistically appropriate before delivery for scientific review.
- Participate in the localization and translation (L&T) process from string management to application implementation.
- Communicates status, timelines, and provides solutions when identifying preventative and corrective actions.
- Monitors and reports on vendor performance. Assists in conducting post-mortem meetings. Addresses quality concerns with vendors and drives quality improvements.
- Processes and solves DITA file issues. Follows best practices for file and folder integrity and version control.
- Conducts pertinent research for translated document to guarantee that meaning is correctly interpreted, and that appropriate specialized terminology is employed
- Demonstrates sound decision-making while preparing high-impact scientific documents by identifying errata or other errors that affect end-users outside of USP
- Participates in process improvements and upgrades of translation resources and internal instructions to support compliance with ISO 17100 requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Russian Translation, Linguistics and/or Foreign Language Studies with 5 years of hands on experience as professional translator and/or translation/localization project manager, or Bachelor’s Degree with an equivalent combination of 3 years of hands-on experience as a
- At least 1 year experience in the following areas: professional experience using xml authoring software (Oxygen preferred) and/or use of CAT tools (MemoQ preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of agile project management principles
- Professional experience using XML authoring software (Oxygen preferred)
- Intermediate or upper-intermediate knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, French or Chinese (a plus)
- Authoritative mastery of text translation/revision techniques, practices, and theories
- Experience working with electronic file tracking and workflow procedures (CMS/TMS-MemoQ Server preferred)
- Intermediate knowledge and/or use of Xbench, SGML, DITA, HTML, CSS, and PYTHON
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator strongly preferred).
- Establish effective working relationships in a team setting through active participation
