Principal Responsibilities:
The YM &YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood is seeking out a creative and self-motivated individual who is fluent in Russian to work with Holocaust survivors who are aging in place.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conducting home visits
Completing initial assessments and care planning
Making referrals for crucial community- based services
Providing supportive counseling
Conducting outreach and establishing connections with local NORCs (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities)
Coordinating educational and social programming for survivors living in the Washington Heights community
Leading supportive groups for survivors in the community on aging-related topics designed to improve quality of life and decrease social isolation
Planning and executing culturally sensitive intergenerational events with family volunteers
Interviewing survivors with the goal of preserving their stories
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Part-time position- flexibility with days
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a typical community center environment.
Home visits may be required
Salary:
$30.00 per hour – 14 hours a week
Minimum Qualifications:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Proven planning, leading, organizing, and monitoring skills; can work in a well-planned and organized manner; can follow through multiple deliverables.
Able to effectively allocate time and resources that reflect institutional goals and priorities.
Organization and people savvy; can make informed decisions; can collaborate, influence, forge strong partnerships, and maintain cordial, professional relationships.
Comfortable dealing with change and fluid environment; flexible and adaptable, especially when faced with challenging situations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly and appropriately communicate in a variety of settings and styles.
Proficient in the use of Google Suite, MS Office applications, social media, and other technology platforms.
Design (particularly with Microsoft Publisher and the Adobe Creative Suite) and photography/video experience a plus.
Proven track record with community building and program development.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MSW or LMSW preferred
Bilingual in English and Russian
Minimum of two years of experience working with the geriatric population – a background in community outreach preferred
Familiarity with and experience working in the Jewish community a plus
WORK AUTHORIZATION & CLEARANCE
Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
Must pass the background check and other pre-employment requirements
