Wood Resilient Environments business unit currently has an exciting opportunity available for a site-based Geotechnical Investigation QA /QC Geotechnical Coordinator / Supervisor at the Sukhoi Log project site in Irkutsk Oblast Region of Russia. The geotechnical investigation will be carried out in accordance with internationally accepted standards. Training on internationally accepted standards and practice will be provided prior to mobilizing to the site. Responsibilities:
Ensure that the execution of the geotechnical investigation by Russian investigation contractors (drilling & in-situ testing/instrumentation/geotechnical data collection) are carried out in strict accordance with the geotechnical investigation program (GIP) scope documents prepared by Wood.
Interact with Wood’s geotechnical design leads (or designates) on a daily basis by completing and sharing daily progress reports, and in turn, sharing feedback from the QA personnel in the field to ensure timely correction of any misalignments.
Maintain a log of investigation and findings to track progress, issues & resolutions.
Provide QA advice / coordinate proactive resolution on non-compliance issues between site and Wood’s design office in Oakville, Canada.
Coordinate and provide technical support to the Site QA team.
Monitor the work of Russian QA personnel to ensure compliance with Wood’s GIP scopes.
Ensure investigation contractor’s and data records are as specified in Wood’s GIP scopes, and customized data entry templates (e.g., soil and bedrock geotechnical logging, in-situ testing, etc.)
Support, or consult in the preparation of the daily / weekly QA plans involving multiple work locations and QA personnel allocation.
Monitor equipment, materials, and process to ensure suitability and compliance with project requirements.
Consult and guide on geotechnical investigation work techniques and work procedures related to testing, installation, and sampling.
Issue and monitor to the closure (as required) of the non-conformance reports, corrective action reports and preventative action reports.
Conduct audits of Contractor’s quality control program providing specific, timely, and independent measurement of compliance; complete/communicate quality audit reports to Wood’s project manager / design leads / Owner.
Complete progress and QA reports on agreed schedule.
Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in geological engineering / engineering geology (not geology) or civil / geotechnical engineering;
Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in geotechnical investigations (soil & rock domains) on civil-mine infrastructure projects;
Familiarity with logging of soil (cores and samples) / rock cores for engineering purposes (Wood will provide orientation(s) for alignment with western standards);
Experience in drilling and sampling of frozen ground will be an asset;
Working experience with:
In-situ testing such as water pressure permeability testing (Lugeon / Packer test), Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Vane Shear testing, etc.;
Collection of undisturbed soil samples;
Installation and monitoring of geotechnical instruments (piezometers, thermistors, etc.);
Quality assurance / quality control experience;
Experience in co-ordination of QA personnel on geotechnical investigation / construction projects will be an asset;
Flexibility to work in arduous conditions at a remote site, on a xx weeks in / xx weeks off rotation basis.
Must be bilingual Russian/English (oral/written)
