In anticipation of an Engineering Task Order from USAID/Ukraine, Amentum is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Structural Engineer. This position provides applied engineering and technical consultation for structural engineering, particularly for transportation (bridges), but also for facilities. The Structural Engineer should have experience conducting structural assessments, particularly for damaged structures or facilities. The Structural Engineer will be responsible for overseeing structural-focused design activities will collaborate closely with Ukraine counterparts to establish requirements.

Essential Responsibilities.

  • Responsible for managing overseeing and coordinating structural-related technical and design work and is a senior member of the engineering team. 
  • Support the program leadership with developing structural-related requirements to include conducting field investigations, studies and meeting with Ukraine government and government counterparts. The structural engineer will collaborate closely with international structural experts, transportation experts and architects to develop proposed solutions and recommendations. 
  • Support the project team with defining risks and provide overall in-country support related to structures and provide overall advice on solutions. Provide expert presentations to local and international teams on Ukraine-related structural issues. 
  • As necessary, act as the Project Manager for more complicated structural activities, particularly as it relates to bridge reconstruction. This includes overseeing local-international design teams ensuring that design systems are met. Support the Engineering leadership with overseeing design projects with heavy structural components.
  • Mentor lower-level design engineers and field supervision staff to ensure that they abide by engineering standards and conduct appropriate oversight of structural-related construction activities. 
  • Support the Health and Safety team ensure that staff adhere to safety working practices for structural issues particularly related to safe operations around structurally damaged facilities. Support the Health and Safety team with defining safe contractor practices and with defining appropriate enforcement, particularly as it relates to structural demolition and safety testing. 
  • Support the team with advising USAID with construction-related issues and provide recommendations particularly as it relates to contract actions. 

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Proven experience and capability to write reports and provide presentations in Ukrainian. Working knowledge of English necessary to coordinate with international teams.
  • A BA/BS degree in Structural Engineering with appropriate local registration. A Master’s Degree is highly preferred. 
  • 15+ (ten) years of experience in Structural Engineering with experience working on structural rehabilitation and repair, particularly of bridges. Excellent knowledge of constructing structural field assessments, establishing demolition requirements and defining safe structural rehabilitation solutions. 
  • Excellent knowledge of Ukrainian and EU structural codes / requirements and an excellent understanding of overall structural principles. 
  • Proven ability to make rapid technical decisions and willing to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing and standard Microsoft Office software to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio. Knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position.
