Overview:
The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Case Worker assists tenants and landlords that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ERAP Case Worker will refer applicants not eligible for the program to other local and city agencies for additional assistance. The ERAP Case Worker must be able to work independently and take initiative when assigned to an external site (s) or during a pop-up event.
Reports To: ERAP PROGRAM COORDINATOR & SENIOR PROGRAM DIRECTOR, Single Stop Service Center
Location: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11207
Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt (Mon – Fri, 10AM – 6PM)
Major Duties:
Conduct timely intake and assessment of all ERAP applicants in order to effectively submit applications in the ERAP database. Provide advocacy to ERAP applicants.
Excellent and interpersonal and customer services skills and must have the ability to work with individuals from different races and backgrounds.
Skills navigating different online sources and using online databases.
Knowledge of different public benefits and rental assistance programs in New York City.
Participate in weekly team meetings to evaluate program performance and implement strategies to achieve high production.
Be flexible and able to adopt to a fast-paced work environment; ability to balance many tasks back-to-back or simultaneously.
Use required tracking and reporting databases to document application submitted and outcomes.
Open to travel to other neighborhoods in Brooklyn and to work remotely if assigned the evening/weekends shift schedule.
Provide referrals to entitlement agencies, social service providers, and other programs on behalf of program applicants.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate Degree or bachelor’s degree preferred, but anyone with relevant experience is encouraged to apply.
Knowledge of and/or experience with housing/rental issues and benefits preferred.
At least one year of related experience providing government benefits counseling or case management services preferred.
Bilingual: English/Spanish, English/Mandarin, English/Creole, English/Bengali, English/Russian, required.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills in the language required.
Must be able to work Monday-Friday from 10AM-6PM (schedule is subject to change as required by the program)
Must be able to work evenings and occasional weekends.
Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and youth and family development perspective.
