Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician II is responsible for ensuring the laboratory component of designated undergraduate courses function smoothly, as per requests from the faculty member(s) responsible for the courses. The position is responsible for the maintenance and distribution of a bacterial culture collection and cell line maintenance. The position is also responsible for the rewriting, correcting, and clarification of lab manuals. Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Prepare and distribute bacterial cultures, and prepare media, reagent & materials for General Microbiology, Pathogenic Microbiology, & Health Microbiology labs. Maintain cell lines for Group Effort Applied Research courses.
Setting up labs, cleaning up labs, picking up unused media and discard from labs, maintaining and testing equipment for use in the labs, running controls for operation on a regular basis, and minor repairs of lab instrumentation. Responsible for stock inventory monitoring and reporting when stocks are low.
Supervise OPS student assistants, and workstudy students, and assist Lab coordinator in daily operations
Support and assist other laboratory based courses in building on an as needed basis.
Other duties as assigned to accomplish the overall mission of the College to include but not limited to required trainings by the University and College of Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous supervisory experience.
