ROLE PURPOSE: Communications Assistant is a member of the Advocacy and Communications team of Save the Children in Ukraine. The Communication Assistant is responsible for supporting advocacy, campaign, media and communication activities of Save the Children.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY :
- Assist in working with internal and external stakeholders (children, government stakeholders, partners, media, etc.) to ensure Save the Children’s program and advocacy activities in Ukraine are effectively and accurately presented;
- Assist in producing and promoting compelling communications materials such as video products, case studies, infographics and photos for different purposes including advocacy events, using social and traditional media;
- Assist in building Save the Children’s media profile in Ukraine by creating a media database and distributing SCI news to the media; facilitating interviews with local and international media;
- Ensuring donors’ visibility requirements are met in all promotional and visibility activities;
- Conducting media monitoring to ensure that senior management and general staff informed about the latest news.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences (public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or information technology)
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- At least 1 year experience working in information, communications and media
- Previous experience working in a non-profit organisation
- Ability to deliver and promote high-quality communications content, including infographics, videos, photographs and case studies, about Save the Children’s programs using social and traditional media, as well as the website
- Experience in interviewing vulnerable children and understanding child protection guidelines and procedures
- Understanding about how to effectively communicate with beneficiaries, partners, government stakeholders, donors and the media, with excellent relationship building skills
- Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English, Russian and Ukrainian for a wide range of different audiences including government stakeholders, donors, journalists and the general public.
- Experience in developing media and communications products in a politically and culturally sensitive manner
- The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working environments.
- Experience in providing technical support to various events, with coordination between different teams within Country Office
- Excellent IT skills, especially in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint
- Experience in producing and editing photo/video content
- Excellent relationship building skills
- An initiative-taking, proactive and inspiring attitude
- Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children’s mandate and child focus, and an ability to ensure this is included in all media and communications content.
