Insurgent/Guerrilla Role Player (FLS)

This position is an hourly, part time on call (PTOC) position working at the National Training Center (NTC). The NTC is located at Fort Irwin, CA, in the Mojave Desert, approximately forty miles northeast of Barstow, CA. This contract supports the NTC mission: “The National Training Center conducts tough, realistic, Unified Land Operations with our Unified Action Partners to prepare Brigade Combat Teams and other units for combat while taking care of Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members.”

The use of Insurgent/Guerrilla Role Players / Foreign Language Speakers (FLS) is critical to adding the realistic cultural texturing to illicit the appropriate training behaviors in the training environment and form the nucleus of the insurgency that is replicated across the training area. Role Players provide the “human terrain” and cultural context for operations as a people-centric approach in the RTU’s training.

Specified Contract Required Language (SCRL): Must be able to speak, read, and write one of the following languages (based on specific rotational requirements): Dari, Pashtu, Korean, or Russian.

Essential Functions:
Primary duties and responsibilities of the Insurgent/Guerrilla (I/G) Role Player are to perform assigned roles and assist in training units in reacting to various situations based on the roles. Roles include, but are not limited to, former regime loyalists, militia, transnational terrorist groups, extremists, and criminals. Additionally, IG Role Players may be required to participate in routine activities such as meetings and social events in order to replicate cover roles. The I/G Role Player must be able to understand and portray the cultural context of the training event.
