Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Lab Manager is a staff full time position responsible for the management of the Languages and Cultures Lab as well as tutoring services, including but not limited to: staffing, scheduling, budgeting, training, mentoring, and daily administrative operations. The candidate is responsible for conducting individualized appointments with office assistants and language tutors to improve lab functions; implementing new second language technology; collecting and analyzing data on the lab and student tutoring services. The candidate is required to be fluent in English and one of the eight languages offered in the department. In addition, the candidate works closely with the department faculty regarding the lab’s vision and mission and the required needs of each individual program. As needed, the candidate teaches and trains students to provide academic context when developing tutoring innovative strategies for student success in language courses.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree in a language and at least 2 years of experience in management.
Strong evidence of effective management, organization, and leadership.
Effective face-to-face and online teaching practices and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge required to instruct and mentor students.
- Skills in developing training programs for mentoring students.
- A team player able and willing to work with faculty on how the lab improves second language acquisition.
- Established knowledge of tutoring strategies and practices, with the ability to train new tutors.
- Ability to articulate a diverse/multicultural perspective.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited university is preferred. Prior experience managing a lab. Effective face-to-face and online teaching practices and experience.
Physical Requirements
Work is normally performed in an office environment. Frequent fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
