Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the UN News / Kiswahili, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:
- Provide specialized assistance to producers at the pre-production and post-production stages of multimedia news production and delivery of information communications products and services related to UN News.
- Research a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; research and compile printed sources of information, as well as video and audio excerpts originating from meetings, press releases, official documents, press conferences, studio interviews, field recordings and live coverage of events related to the work of the UN.
- Assist in various phases of the production and distribution of recorded radio programming and products: participate in the morning editorial meeting and the daily unit planning of broadcasts;
- Request and arrange interviews for the producers to conduct; perform digital audio editing of inserts, cuts, clips and other recorded components of programmes; suggest in-depth story ideas and assisting with all aspects of production related to podcast production; propose ideas for extending the reach of audio products.
- Assist in the timely electronic/digital or internet dissemination/distribution of radio programmes: prepare, maintain and update web page, to include drafting and editing of content; upload/download audio files; undertake proactive calls and direct mail initiatives to build client base and nurture relationships; manage, update and further develop internal databases; generate a variety of standard and non-standard statistical reports from various databases on the usage or consumption of the units items, products and programs; provide guidance and training to interns/volunteers.
- Assists in the production and editing of video projects: interviews UN officials and other main characters for inclusion in UN News’ video outputs which can include assisting with camera, checking scripts, editing visual and print materials, and suggesting questions.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required.
Experience in producing audio and video production for broadcasters, web and social media required.
Experience in all pre-production, production and post production of multimedia features required.
Experience with live radio or TV broadcasting transmissions required.
Experience in recording, filming and editing audio and video material required.
Experience in editing with Adobe Premiere software is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in both English and Kiswahili are required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
